Alabama Functional Medicine is a functional medicine practice with offices in Montgomery and Auburn. For more than 30 years, Ryan McWhorter, MD, IFMCP has worked with patients whose problems did not fit neatly into a fifteen-minute visit.
We take the time to understand the whole picture, test for what is actually going on, and build a plan with you rather than for you.
You are not alone. If you are here, you have probably spent a long time looking for someone to take your symptoms seriously. Many of our patients arrive after years of being told their labs look fine.
Many of our own team members arrived the same way, as patients first. It is part of why the practice listens the way it does.
How we practice
Four things you can expect from us
We look for the why.
Symptoms are information. We use advanced testing and a careful history to understand what is driving them before we decide what to do.
We listen first.
First appointments are long on purpose. You will not be rushed, and you will not have to prove that what you feel is real.
We treat the whole person.
Hormones, gut, immune system, nervous system and stress affect each other. We look at them together, because your body does not separate them.
We combine the best of both.
Conventional diagnostics and medicine where they serve you; nutrition, detoxification, regenerative and energy-based therapies where they fit. Nothing is chosen because it is trendy.
Who we help
The reasons people most often come to us
Most patients arrive with a problem that has gone on too long. These are the six we see most.
Chronic illness and pain
When symptoms have outlasted the usual treatments.
Every patient’s plan is built on the Saluxis Method, the four-part framework Dr. McWhorter developed over 30 years of practice. It gives structure to care that would otherwise feel like guesswork.
The four parts are not steps you graduate from. They layer and support each other for as long as you are in our care.
