Dr. McWhorter

About the Doctor

Dr. Ryan McWhorter is on a mission to solve the toughest health challenges with real solutions beyond symptom management.

With over 30 years of experience, Dr. McWhorter combines time-tested healing principles with advanced technology to help patients better understand and support their health. His advanced functional medicine education includes extensive training through the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM). His functional medicine approach looks beyond symptoms to explore factors that may contribute to chronic pain, fatigue, and other ongoing concerns.
This approach led him to develop the Saluxis Method, a four-part framework for looking deeper than symptom management. Today, it guides every care plan at Alabama Functional Medicine.

His approach

Care that looks deeper

Dr. McWhorter works with a wide range of health concerns, including chronic illness, low energy, hormone imbalances, gut health, and heart health. However, his true passion lies in helping women overcome some of the most complex pelvic health conditions, like vulvodynia, severe period pain, infertility, urinary incontinence, and sexual pain. His philosophy is that no woman should have to accept these issues as a “normal” part of life or aging. Around the clinic, you’ll often hear him say, “Pain is not normal at any age or stage.” He is dedicated to uncovering the root causes of these problems and providing personalized care that restores function, confidence, and pleasure.

Dr. McWhorter’s career took a pivotal turn following the loss of a father figure to heart disease. This personal experience fueled his commitment to finding better ways to predict, prevent, and treat serious health issues. After graduating with honors from Auburn University at Montgomery and receiving his medical degree from the University of Alabama-Birmingham School of Medicine, he quickly realized that conventional healthcare often fell short in providing long-term healing. His search for more effective treatments led him to functional medicine. He went on to pursue extensive functional medicine education, including advanced training through the Institute for Functional Medicine. There, he blends advanced therapies with natural healing techniques to offer a comprehensive approach to care.

At his clinic in Montgomery, Alabama, Dr. McWhorter developed the Saluxis Method, a system that focuses on addressing health problems at their root cause rather than simply masking symptoms. This process involves four key elements: releasing toxins, replenishing nutrients, resetting the immune and nervous systems, and rewiring the brain-body connection. This functional medicine-focused method has empowered countless men and women to restore their health, energy, and vitality.
Dr. McWhorter’s practice stands as a beacon of hope for patients who feel like they’ve exhausted all other options. His deep commitment to guiding patients toward better health proves that it’s never too late to heal, thrive, and live the vibrant life you desire.

With this in mind, Dr. McWhorter seeks to learn all he can about new and emerging treatments by attending training sessions and conferences across the country.

Patient

It is so refreshing to go into a doctor's office and hear the ways we are in control of our health. It is night and day here from typical western medicine. Dr McWhorter and his staff are such a breath of fresh air! I have been here for five years and my hope is he can outlast me so I never have to find another practitioner.
